The Golden Gate Singers is a professional SATB ensemble currently being formed under the artistic direction of Kevin Phillip Johnson. The choir is dedicated to the vast and living tradition of African American music — from the sorrow and transcendence of the Negro Spiritual, through gospel, jazz, and sacred song, to the rhythmic truth of Hip Hop.
The name is given in honor of Kevin's father — a tribute to the man who opened the gate for everything that followed.
The Golden Gate Singers will perform in concert halls, churches, universities, and community spaces — anywhere the music needs to be heard. If you are a trained singer who believes in this mission, we want to hear from you.
